The other day I went to Payless in Agana to buy some fruits but there was virtually no choice ... at least 90% came from Japan or Korea and with a hefty price tag! But how can this be? Isn't it winter there? It makes me wonder if they were actually grown from those countries.... Why weren't there any selections from South America? The goods are always cheaper. Possibly, the cargo ships haven't arrived to replenish the inventory. How tragic, especially on our pocket book!
On another note, I am happy that Payless has opened a new store in Mangilao. I can actually walk there to shop. The organization is almost identical to the one in Agana. My only concern is the traffic:
Across the busy street, the Bank of Guam complex has an entrances to the Bank and another to KFC. Tonight (Fri) is government payday and there is already a multitude of people shopping; cars coming from the north are trying to make a left turn into the comple; cars trying to exit Payless to go south ...and no traffic light. I dread Monday when not only is the Bank of Guam opened, but so is Public Health just down the street about a block north.! I pray everyone will drive very, very cautiously because everyone will be trying to get onto the center lane and no traffic light to guide a safe passage.
In front of this new building, there is a sidewalk. Too bad the owners of Payless couldn't have extended this sidewalk down towards Public Health. Bus riders from Public Health are required to wait adjacent to a telephone pole just a short distance from the new Payless. Maybe the Mayor can fix this oversight. maybe...
